Reed sensing products include the reed switch the reed sensor reed relay and Hall Effect sensor. Typical applications include the sensing of proximity, level, speed or flow.

A reed switch is an electrical switch operated by an applied magnetic field. It is comprised of two ferromagnetic nickel-iron wires or reeds and a hermetically sealed glass capsule. The reed switch is activated by either an electromagnetic coil or by bringing a magnet close to the reed switch. Magnetism attracts the reeds. Once the magnet is pulled away from the switch, the reed switch returns to its original position. No power is required to activate the reeds.

A reed sensor is a reed switch packaged in a glass filled plastic housing for protection against environmental influences and to simplify mounting and connecting. Reed Sensors can sense proximity, liquid level, liquid flow, speed, seat occupancy, rotational position and acceleration. Reed Sensors are designed with an integrated magnetic actuator or with a separate, matching magnetic actuator.

A reed relay is an electrical switch that combines a reed switch and a copper coil that creates a magnetic field for tripping the switch. Options such as coil suppression diodes, electrostatic shields, and external magnetic shields are available.

The Hall Effect Sensor is a solid state electronic device whose output changes when exposed to a magnetic field. The Hall Effect Sensor detects the change in the magnetic field when the magnet comes in close proximity to it and generates an electric signal. The output signals can be either digital or analog and are used for proximity and continuous rotary or linear positioning.
